Microneedling is a popular treatment for rejuvenating the face and body without surgery or the long road to recovery that comes with it. The procedure involves using thin, tiny needles that leave micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body to produce more collagen and elastin.
We usually recommend radiofrequency (RF) microneedling over traditional microneedling, which boosts the toning, smoothing, and brightening benefits of traditional microneedling with a few additional benefits, such as skin tightening leading to more dramatic results.
The benefits of RF microneedling are evident:
- No surgery
- Slight Discomfort
- Minimal downtime
- Accelerates collagen and elastin production more than traditional microneedling
- Treats a wide variety of skin concerns
- Tightens skin
- Improves overall skin quality, tone, and texture
- Rejuvenates your skin and makes you appear younger
Adding radiofrequency to your microneedling treatment helps address your concerns in fewer treatment sessions. We use Lutronic Genius®, which is powerful and uses radiofrequency energy to target areas of concern precisely. Genius RF microneedling can help tone, strengthen, tighten, and smooth out thin, loose, wrinkly skin.
The most common skin conditions we treat with RF microneedling include:
- Acne scars
- Wrinkles
- Hyperpigmentation
- Enlarged pores
- Rough or dull skin
- Uneven skin tone
- Hair loss
Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), taken from your blood and full of naturally produced growth factors, is known to repair tissue and stimulate new collagen cell growth. When added to microneedling, PRP can speed up the healing process and stimulate extra collagen production, producing brighter, smoother, and more evenly toned skin than microneedling alone.
But how many sessions are needed to get your goal results? Do you need to return for maintenance treatments after your initial treatment plan?
You will not see significant results immediately after just one RF microneedling session because it takes your body 4-6 weeks to start producing new collagen, and it can take 3-6 months to see the final results: refreshed, firmer, glowing skin. Some patients with minimal concerns are happy with their final results after just 1-2 treatments, but most patients need at least three treatments to achieve their goals.
We typically recommend 3-5 initial RF microneedling sessions, each spaced 4-6 weeks apart, but the number of sessions required will differ to achieve individual goals and skin types. Your specific needs and how your skin reacts to the treatment will also affect the number of sessions you may require.
Before your first microneedling treatment, we recommend scheduling a consultation to discuss your goals and allow a microneedling specialist to assess your skin conditions, listen to your concerns, and provide professional recommendations for your best treatment plan. At HerSpace MedSpa, microneedling is never a “one size fits all” treatment, and we tailor microneedling treatment plans to each patient for the best results.
The number of microneedling sessions you need can depend on the following:
- The skin conditions you want to treat
- The extent of your skin conditions
- Whether you’re having traditional or RF microneedling
- Is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) included in your treatment?
- The area you’re treating
How Many RF Microneedling Sessions Do I Need For Acne Scars?
Scars are a more difficult skin condition to treat. Genius RF microneedling offers more dramatic, longer-lasting results in fewer sessions than traditional microneedling for acne scars.
With RF microneedling, we typically recommend three sessions, each spaced four weeks apart for acne scars. Traditional microneedling, on the other hand, may require up to six sessions of treatments to treat acne scarring completely. Your age, skin type, and the severity of your acne scars are the main determining factors when we build your recommended treatment plan.
Your acne scars should be permanently reduced or eliminated after your initial series of treatments, but having regular chemical peels or facials once your skin has healed can keep your skin clear and healthy.
How Many RF Microneedling Sessions Do I Need For Wrinkles?
If you want to treat wrinkles or even sagging skin, we usually combine your microneedling treatments with radiofrequency energy or PRP for more advanced skin rejuvenation.
To achieve smooth, wrinkle-free skin, we initially recommend having three Genius RF microneedling sessions or 4-5 traditional microneedling sessions followed by maintenance treatments every six months to keep your skin looking supple and smooth-textured.
Microneedling is not a treatment that will produce instant wrinkle-smoothing results with the magic happening during the recovery period between your sessions. However, once your skin has healed and your collagen revived, you’ll find the smooth-skinned result worth the wait.
How Many RF Microneedling Sessions Do I Need For Hyperpigmentation?
Fun in the sun is great for our happiness but not for our skin if we’re not using proper UV protection. Microneedling is often required to treat dark spots, or hyperpigmentation, caused by sun damage. Hyperpigmentation can make the skin tone and texture appear uneven, as extra melanin creates areas on the skin that look brown, red, black, or pink.
To lighten and reverse dark spots caused by hyperpigmentation, we usually recommend patients get either 3-4 Genius RF or 5-6 traditional microneedling treatments, depending again on the severity, skin type, and goals.
How Many RF Microneedling Sessions Do I Need For Large Pores Or Dry Skin?
Most patients only need 1-2 sessions to treat mild skin conditions such as enlarged pores or rough, dry skin.
How Many RF Microneedling Sessions Will You Need?
Collagen and elastin are vital proteins in our skin that keep it appearing firm, thick, and bright, yet become weaker and less produced with age. By communicating to these proteins to “wake up,” RF microneedling expedites the body’s natural healing process, and over time, patients notice their skin looking clearer, brighter, and tighter.
If you’re ready to start on the road to healthier, brighter, and younger-looking skin, schedule a consultation with the specialists at HerSpace MedSpa to discuss your goals and build a microneedling treatment plan tailored to you and your skin.
